Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Doctors (ND) are fundamentally medically trained in understanding a well-functioning, healthy body and state. Dr. Rachel Stummer, ND provides a thorough intake and investigation leading to a diagnosis and treatment plan, which considers the root cause and totality of the body’s organ systems. The guiding treatment modalities of naturopathic medicine include natural remedies, clinical nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes to support the body's healing capability. Each treatment plan is as individual as the patient and tailored to the body's unique needs. NDs combine the benefits of Eastern and Western medicine to achieve lasting and sustainable results.
Dr. Stummer, ND identifies the root cause and treats the whole person, while considering the profound connection of the body, mind and spirit. She is passionate to help build patient’s long term resilience, which includes making informed choices and building a strong foundation for success. She is dedicated to empowering and educating patients to help them live in a greater state of health and mental well-being. She uses an eclectic style of naturopathic medicine tools to gently coerce the body and mind into greater balance and healing, and acknowledges the profound effect of supporting emotional well-being and mental health while treating physical health concerns. She provides a space for patients to heal and thrive.
Dr. Stummer is registered with the College of Naturopaths Ontario (CONO). She is a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND).

After a completion a university undergraduate degree, the naturopathic student enters into a four-year, full-time accredited naturopathic medical program. Training includes rigorous medical, and clinical science; diagnostics; naturopathic principles and therapeutics; and extensive clinical experience under the supervision of qualified naturopathic doctors.
Graduates receive the title “N.D.” or Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine. Upon successful completion of any accredited program, a naturopathic doctor is eligible to sit for board examinations to obtain licensure.

Naturopathic medicine treats all health concerns for all ages from acute to chronic and physical to psychological. It is beneficial for the following types of patients:
Patients that are looking for disease prevention and health promotion strategies.
Patients that have a range of symptoms that they have been unable to address on their own or with the help of other medical practitioners.
Patients that have been diagnosed with an illness, often serious or chronic and are looking for treatment options. Naturopathic medicine is very effective for improving quality of life for those with serious and life threatening illnesses.
Patients that are looking to combine conventional and naturopathic treatments with the aim of minimizing side effects of drugs, surgery or conventional treatments.
Patients that have a range of symptoms that they have been unable to address on their own or with the help of other medical practitioners.

Most extended health insurance plans in Canada cover naturopathic treatments. Insured patients are encouraged to contact their employer or individual insurance brokers to determine if they are covered and/or to request that their policy be extended to include naturopathic services if it does not already do so.
Since naturopathic doctors use alternatives to costly techniques and drug therapies, more insurance companies are expanding coverage of this cost-effective treatment method. Naturopathic medicine is currently not covered by any of the provincial health plans such as OHIP.
